Students use the Tutosaic Student app on their own phone or tablet. The app is linked to one student through a pairing code you generate in the Dashboard. No student account, email or password is involved.

Generating a pairing code

  1. Open Family → Devices and pick the student, or open the student's page.
  2. Choose Generate code (or New pairing code).
  3. The Dashboard shows an 8-character code in the form XXXX-XXXX, with Copy code.

The onboarding flow does the same thing in its third step.

Pairing the app

  1. Install Tutosaic Student on the student's device.
  2. Open the app. It starts on the Pair screen.
  3. Type the code. Dashes and case do not matter.

The app exchanges the code for a device token stored securely on the device and opens the student's inbox. Back in the Dashboard, the code shows as Paired with the time, and the device appears in the list with its last activity.

Rules for pairing codes

  • A code pairs one device. To pair a second device for the same student, generate another code.
  • A code does not expire on its own. It stays valid until it is used or you revoke it. An unused code shows as Not paired yet.
  • Codes are tied to one student. A device paired with a sibling's code sees the sibling's work, so check the name on the code before you share it.

Revoking

  • Revoke an unused code if you shared it by mistake. It can no longer be used.
  • Revoke a paired device to sign it out. The device token is invalidated immediately. The next time the app talks to Tutosaic it returns to the Pair screen, and any work queued for upload on that device is dropped.

Push notifications

The app registers for push notifications when it pairs. Whether a device gets a push when you return a correction is controlled per student, with the Send a push when I return a correction toggle on the student's page. Approved assignments notify the device regardless.

Signing out from the device

The Profile tab in the app has a sign-out action. It clears the device token and push registration. Pair again with a new code to come back.

Lost or replaced device

Revoke the old device from the Dashboard first, then generate a new code for the new device. The student's assignments and history are on the server, so nothing is lost with the device.
